The Toronto Blue Jays have added infielder Sean Keys to their Major League roster. This move is part of several roster adjustments made by the team. Keys is expected to be active for Saturday’s game against Texas.
In conjunction with Keys’ call-up, outfielder Yohendrick Pinango has also been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo. Both players are slated to be available for the upcoming game.
Roster Adjustments and Player Movements
The Blue Jays placed outfielder Jesus Sanchez on the 10-day injured list due to a right ankle sprain. Additionally, outfielder Davis Schneider was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo to make room on the 26-man roster.
This marks the second time this year that Schneider has been optioned. He has a .153/.282/.296 line with three home runs in 118 plate appearances this season. Schneider entered the season with two years and 29 days of service time. His time in Triple-A could impact his eligibility for arbitration in the offseason and his path to free agency after 2029.
Keys, who is 23 years old, was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 draft. After his draft selection, he played in 22 Single-A games, recording 98 plate appearances. During that time, he maintained a 21.4% strikeout rate and a 13.3% walk rate, achieving a .293/.378/.451 slash line for a 134 wRC+.
His strong performance continued into 2025 at the High-A level, where he hit 19 home runs and drew walks at a 16.3% clip. Despite a .250 batting average on balls in play, he posted a .217/.365/.408 slash line, resulting in a 119 wRC+.
Keys has been even better in 2025, starting at Double-A and earning a promotion to Triple-A earlier this month. Between these two levels, he has already accumulated 21 home runs this year. His combined line for the year is .284/.409/.619, with a 164 wRC+. He also has a 23.1% strikeout rate and a 13.6% walk rate. Baseball America lists him as the club’s #14 prospect, with his hitting skills receiving notable praise.
Impact on the Blue Jays Lineup
The Blue Jays are looking to boost their lineup with Keys’ impressive offensive production. The team currently holds a collective .249/.311/.391 line and a 96 wRC+ this year, placing them in the bottom third among MLB clubs. Their record stands at 39-42, which is enough to be tied for a playoff spot in the American League.
Keys has primarily played first or third base throughout his professional career. The team’s current first baseman is Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has had a challenging season relative to his past performance, with four home runs. Guerrero has also experienced some back tightness this month, though he has not been placed on the injured list.
Kazuma Okamoto is the team’s third baseman and leads the squad with 18 home runs. He has struck out frequently but is expected to remain in the lineup. There is a possibility he could spend more time at first base if Guerrero requires time off. Okamoto has also played some left field in Japan, making 26 appearances there after the 2019 season.
George Springer, who serves as the regular designated hitter, has not played in the field this year but logged over 400 innings in the outfield last year. Manager John Schneider previously mentioned that the team was considering playing Springer in right field occasionally. If Springer were to play in the outfield, it could affect the playing time of other outfielders like Nathan Lukes and Jesus Sanchez, who primarily play against right-handed pitchers, and Myles Straw and Davis Schneider, who see more time against left-handed pitchers.
The addition of Keys could provide a much-needed offensive spark for the Blue Jays as they navigate a tight race in the American League.

The Blue Jays made these roster changes on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
