The National Hockey League (NHL) has released its full 2026-27 regular-season schedule, prompting many teams to share creative videos on social media to announce their 84-game lineups. This season marks the first time since 1993-94 that the league will play 84 regular-season games per team, resulting in a total of 1,344 games, which will set a new NHL record.
The upcoming season, the 110th for the NHL, is set to be the longest in over 30 years. The 32 franchises will participate in this expanded schedule, which is part of a new collective bargaining agreement. This agreement also includes a reduction of the preseason to just four games. The season will commence on September 29, marking only the second time the NHL has started its season before October, and will conclude on April 10.

Key Dates and International Series
The 2026-27 season will feature several notable events and matchups. One anticipated fixture is the Stanley Cup rematch between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights. The Hurricanes are scheduled to raise a championship banner before their first game in September. The two teams will meet for the first time in Las Vegas on December 21, followed by another game in Raleigh on January 17.
The NHL will also host two separate Global Series events for the first time in two years. In November, the Hurricanes will play the Seattle Kraken in a pair of games in Helsinki, Finland. This will be the Kraken’s first overseas appearance since their debut in 2021, while the Hurricanes previously played in Helsinki in October 2010. The games are scheduled for November 12 and 14.
In December, the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks will compete in Dusseldorf, Germany, at the PSD Bank Dome. The games are set for December 18 and 19. The Blackhawks have a 1-1-1 record in three previous regular-season contests in Europe, while Ottawa holds a 4-1-1 record in international contests, including victories in the 2023 Global Series in Stockholm, Sweden.
Special Events and All-Star Format
The NHL Winter Classic is scheduled for New Year’s Eve. This marks the first appearance in the Winter Classic for one of the teams. The Avalanche have previously participated in the Stadium Series, losing to the Detroit Red Wings in 2016 and the Los Angeles Kings in 2020, and also faced Vegas at Lake Tahoe in 2021. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
The Heritage Classic will also return, with the Winnipeg Jets hosting the Montreal Canadiens at Princess Auto Stadium on October 25. Additionally, the 2027 Stadium Series will see the Dallas Stars take on the Vegas Golden Knights at AT&T Stadium on February 20.
The league is revamping its All-Star Weekend, hosted by the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. The skills competition on February 5 will feature players aged 25 and younger, with 10 competitors vying for a $1 million prize. On February 6, a five-team tournament will take place, where players will represent their countries: Canada, Finland, Sweden, the United States, and a team of athletes from other nations. Each team will play four five-minute 3-on-3 games, with the top two teams advancing to a 10-minute championship game for a $1 million prize.
The season will also include nights where all 32 teams are in action, offering fans close to eight hours of games. The first such 16-game night is on Tuesday, October 13, with games starting at 6 p.m. ET. The second will occur on the final day of the season, April 10, with games beginning at noon ET.
